Dear Members of the Chess Community

This year we mark an important milestone – eighty (80) years as the Trinidad and Tobago Chess Association (TTCA). The theme we have adopted for 2016 is “Building productive, disciplined communities…One move at a time”.

The TTCA was founded in 1936 and became affiliated to FIDE in 1972. Since our inception, we have been instrumental in the development of the sport of chess in Trinidad and Tobago. We have also produced many top class chess players.

During the past 80 years we have also had many exceptional achievements, including medals at the World Chess Olympiad at the team and individual levels, Sportsman of the Year, Junior Sportswoman of the Year and more recently the award of Administration of the Year-Small for 2015.

As an organization, we have also strived to increase the level of professionalism in the administration of our beloved sport. This milestone also presents an opportunity for us to reflect on where we are as an organization as we as we strive to really make our mark in building our society through the sport of chess.

The TTCA management team has discussed many proposed activities to commemorate this year, including the hosting of an International Invitational/Open tournament, a major awards ceremony and an 80thAnniversary logo competition. Given the current economic reality, we are only able to execute on these plans with the support of the wider community, both in terms of time and resources.

I therefore encourage you to come on board and participate in these activities and support our efforts in ensuring the TTCA remains relevant and performs at an even higher standard.
