Genesis Super Swiss 2022


The Southern Chess Club cordially invites you to the Genesis Super Swiss sponsored by Genesis Insurance Brokers & Benefits Consultants Ltd which starts on June 11 2022.

The Genesis Super Swiss chess tournament will be FIDE Rated (Internationally rated) and will make history as the first tournament in Trinidad and Tobago with an Olympiad type time limit (40 moves in 90mins and 30 mins to complete, with 30sec increment from move 1). It is therefore expected to produce the highest quality chess games. See the regulations below for more details.

Details are as follows:
Date: June 11th, 12th, 18th, 19th, 20th 2022
Venue: Gulf View Community Centre

The tournament will be FIDE Rated and will be divided into two groups:

Group A:
Entrance Fee – $150
1800+ FIDE rating can only play in group A; however 1600-1799 may opt to play in Group A

Group B:
Entrance Fee – $100
Unrated players or those under 1600 can only play in Group B, however players 1600-1799 may opt to play in Group B

Registration will be taken online up to 9th June, 2022 and NOT on the day of the tournament.

System and rate of Play: The tournament will be played according to the Swiss system abiding by the FIDE rules of Chess. Playing time will be 90 mins for 40 moves plus 30 mins for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move one.

Default time is 30 minutes for each round

Round 1 – Saturday June 11th 9:00am
Round 2 – Saturday June 11th 4:00pm
Round 3 – Sunday June 12th 3:00pm
Round 4 – Saturday June 18th 9:00am
Round 5 – Saturday June 18th 4:00pm
Round 6 – Sunday June 19th 3:00pm
Round 7 – Monday June 20th 3:00pm
Prize Distribution – After round 7 is complete


Pairings will be shown on Chess-Results.
The tournament will be played as a seven (7) round Swiss tournament,

Players defaulting 2 games will be withdrawn from the tournament.

Group A
1st Place – $2000
2nd Place – $1400
3rd Place – $1000
4th Place – $600

Group B
1st Place – $500
2nd Place – $300
3rd Place – $200
4th Place – $100

Tie Breaks:
Direct Encounter (The results of the players in the same point group)
Buchholz Tie-Breaks (Cut 1)
Buchholz Tie-Breaks (Cut 0)
Sonneborn-Berger-Tie-Break
The greater number of victories (Forfeits Included)

Flash photography may only be taken in the first 5 minutes of each round unless specified otherwise by the Chief Arbiter. Only the players, media and arbiters shall be allowed access to the playing area unless specified otherwise by the Chief Arbiter.

As long as a game is in progress, a player may talk only to an Arbiter or to his opponent as permitted by the laws of Chess

Players are not allowed to eat in the playing venue.

Dress code does not allow open toes slippers. All clothing must be knee length or lower

Appeals procedure: Any protest against the Chief Arbiter decisions must be submitted in writing to the chair of the Appeals Committee within 15 minutes after the completion of the playing session. The protest must be lodged by the player and it has to be accompanied by a sum of $100 as a deposit from the signatory. If the appeal is refused, the deposit will be forfeited. The Appeal Committee’s decisions are final.

The SCC will not be responsible for any health risks and accidents for the duration of the tournament. Current health protocols valid for this event period must be observed
