TTCA was awarded the Jeffrey Stollmeyer Award for Top Sporting Organisation-Large for 2019

Dear Chess Community,

On behalf of the TTCA, I wish you a happy and holy Easter!
I do also hope that you are well and staying safe.

It is with immense pride that I share with you some positive news in this challenging time in our country and across the world.

The Trinidad and Tobago Chess Association was awarded the Jeffrey Stollmeyer Award for Top Sporting Organisation-Large for 2019 during the First Citizens Sports Foundation Awards virtual presentation that was aired last night on local tv stations.

This honour followed previous awards obtained by the TTCA as Top Sporting Organisation-Small Category in 2015, 2016 and 2018. The other nominees for the Large Category were the Trinidad and Tobago Hockey Board and the National Association of Athletics Administrations of Trinidad and Tobago. This was indeed a milestone for the sport of chess within Trinidad and Tobago and for our community.

Additionally, the youth nominees for chess, WCM Shemilah James and IM Alan-Safar Ramoutar, were shortlisted as top 10 youth athletes for their performances in 2019! Please extend congratulations to them for their excellent achievements!

I am very humbled by the recognition given to the TTCA in the national sporting landscape as this puts the TTCA well on its way to becoming one of the Top 5 sporting organisations in Trinidad and Tobago.

This achievement is clearly a collective effort. I am particularly appreciative of the members of the TTCA Executive who volunteer their time and talent to ensure that the TTCA fulfils its mandate and engages in activities that benefit our community.

Of course, there will be no TTCA without a supportive community. So I am also very grateful for the outpouring of support from the players, parents, arbiters, clubs and so many others that encourage us to continue serving in spite of some of the challenges we face during the course of our jobs.

As stated during the TTCA Awards Ceremony in March, one of the key pillars of our operations is building strategic partnerships. We are therefore grateful to the unwavering support given by the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee and FIDE towards the TTCA. We are also grateful for the partnership with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands whose support allowed us to stream chess games via our recently acquired electronic boards and thereby enhancing the profile of the TTCA.

This achievement demonstrates the strength of our community. We will continue to bolster these efforts as we strive to improve, even further, the sport of chess in a manner that is sustainable while positively impacting all levels of our society.

Once again, thank you…thank you…thank you!

Stay home. Stay safe.
