The Genesis Super Swiss <\/strong>chess tournament will be FIDE Rated (Internationally rated) and will make history as the first tournament in Trinidad and Tobago with an Olympiad type time limit (40 moves in 90mins and 30 mins to complete, with 30sec increment from move 1). It is therefore expected to produce the highest quality chess games. For this, the second year of the tournament, it will be held over 6 rounds. See the regulations below for more details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Details are as follows:
Date: June 24th and 25th, July 1st and 2nd 2023
Venue: 15 Mora Avenue, Coconut Drive, San Fernando
<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tournament will be FIDE Rated<\/strong> and will be divided into two groups:

Group A<\/strong>:
Entrance Fee – $150 if paid by 21st June. $200 after 21st June.<\/strong>
1800+ FIDE rating can only play in group A; however 1600-1799 may opt to play in Group A

Group B<\/strong>:
Entrance Fee – $100 if paid by 21st June. $150 after 21st June.<\/strong>
Unrated players or those under 1600 can only play in Group B, however players 1600-1799 may opt to play in Group B

Registration will be taken online up to 21st June 2023 and NOT<\/strong> on the day of the tournament.

System and rate of Play<\/strong>: The tournament will be played according to the Swiss system, abiding by the FIDE rules of chess for Standard time control. Both groups will be played as six (6) round Swiss tournaments. Players must be present before the start of round 1 to be paired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Playing time per player will be 90 mins for 40 moves plus 30 mins for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move 1.

Pairings and Default Time for Both Groups:<\/strong>
Pairings will be done using Swiss Manager and will be shown on Chess-Results.com.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A player who defaults on a round and is not present before the pairing of the subsequent round would be thought to have withdrawn from the tournament and will not be paired. Players may inform the Chief Arbiter that they wish not to be paired for a future round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Players defaulting (and\/or not appearing for) 2 rounds will be withdrawn from the tournament unless otherwise determined by the Chief Arbiter.
Default time is 45 Minutes.<\/strong>
Prize Distribution \u2013 Sunday July 2nd after end of Round 6 (approx. 7pm)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The greater number of victories (Forfeits Included) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flash photography may only be taken in the first 5 minutes of each round unless specified otherwise by the Chief Arbiter. Only the players, media and arbiters shall be allowed access to the playing area unless specified otherwise by the Chief Arbiter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As long as a game is in progress, a player may talk only to an Arbiter or to his opponent as permitted by the laws of Chess<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dress code does not allow open toes slippers. All clothing must be knee length or lower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Appeals procedure:<\/strong> An Appeals Committee will be setup from amongst the players and will comprise of 3 Members and 2 Alternates. Any protest against the Chief Arbiter\u2019s decision must be submitted in writing to the chair of the Appeals Committee within 10 minutes after the completion of the playing session. The protest must be lodged by the player, and it must be accompanied by a sum of $100 as a deposit from the signatory. If the appeal is refused, the deposit will be forfeited. The Appeal Committee\u2019s decisions are final.
